VIRGIN AUSTRALIA'S BOEING 777 AIR TO AIR SYDNEY HARBOUR
Behind the scenes air to air filming of Virgin Australia’s first International Boeing 777 aircraft over Sydney Harbour filmed from a bombardier learjet. We took off from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport and headed north to rendezvous with the 777 aircraft out over the ocean off Palm Beach to then fly south over Pittwater , the Northern Beaches and then up Sydney Harbour with the end goal to nail a shot of Virgin Australia’s 777 flying above the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It was surreal flying so close to such a large aircraft and at times close enough that we could make out the pilots in the cockpit. The difficulty we faced with the shoot was coordinating with Sydney air traffic control and the commercial flights in and out of Sydney. On the first attempt to nail the shot it was looking promising on a approach to the Opera House as we flew in tandem until we were called away by air traffic control which then meant we had to reroute back to our original meeting point of Palm Beach to then fly south and attempt it all over again. After 4 attempts flying up the guts of the Harbour in tandem we finally got the shot right at the time of being called away by air traffic control.
